ORGANIC FARM CREW MEMBER

JOB DESCRIPTION
Husky Meadows Farm is looking for a seasonal farm crew member to help with vegetable production and other farm tasks from April through the end of October. This is a great position for someone who is looking to gain beginning farm experience or spend the summer working on a farm.

Job responsibilities will include all aspects of organic production: seed starting, greenhouse management, bed preparation, direct seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing and packaging, along with working a weekly farm stand/farm market on rotation and interacting with customers. Crew will also share responsibilities for daily chicken care and will help with log-grown mushroom production.

Other activities may include small fruit production, orchard production, beekeeping, and food preservation.

Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to work in all weather condition. Candidates should be mature, responsible, self-motivated and willing to work on a team as well as individually. Attention to detail and good communication skills are required. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary. Candidate should have a passion for food, excitement to learn and a strong work ethic and willingness to engage in educational and hospitality events.

Pay is $15/hour. We are a growing company and there is much potential for the right candidate. Our schedule is Monday through Friday 8-4 with overtime pay available on a rotating schedule for Farm Stand/Farmers' Market on Saturdays. This position is full-time from April 18 to October 28. Exact start and end dates can be flexible if needed (to work with school schedules, etc). Applicants need their own transportation. Housing is not provided.

SEASONAL CULINARY INTERN

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Seed and Spoon is the education and hospitality component of Husky Meadows Farm. We offer immersive culinary farm stays highlighting the connection between field and kitchen for our guests. We also create a weekly menu of prepared foods for on-farm pickup and our local farmers market. The kitchen intern will have a wide variety of regular tasks that link the farm and the kitchen.

Responsibilities:
The kitchen intern will assist in prepared food production, helping to ensure excess produce from the farm gets used in the kitchen. The intern will assist with farm stay activities including kitchen meal prep, front of house and guest engagement. The intern will help tend the kitchen garden. There may also be some opportunities to work with the field crew in our 2 acre market garden.
The intern will also serve as administrative support with customer emails, our on-line store and marketing.

Requirements
Some experience with food and farming is a plus but not required. This position is really intended for a curious individual who seeks experience and exposure to a true farm to table setting and application. An enthusiastic interest in cooking, preserving, gardening, education and hospitality is crucial.
The candidate should be able to work on their own as well as with the team. Attention to detail, organization and cleanliness are absolutely essential in the kitchen environment. We work in an atmosphere of kindness and respectful open communication as well as offering genuine welcome and hospitality to our guests, visitors and customers.

This position is for 40 hours a week, mostly Monday through Friday but will vary during our events. This position begins March 1st and will run through the end of October. Housing is not available. Candidate would have reliable transportation.


COMPENSATION
this position is : hourly, $15/hr +
