Farming in the time of Covid-19

Farming in the time of Covid-19

Hey there folks,

This spring on the farm has been busier than ever. We are about to welcome a new field crew on board and the planting season will be in full swing. We are thankful that our work continues in this challenging time. Food safety and food access are more important than ever and we are working with the following protocols to ensure the safety of our staff, our produce and our customers.

What We are Doing!

Team member safety and hygiene:

  • Each member of the team has their own equipment from hoes and tools right down to pens, pencils and masks and gloves.

  • Thankfully the nature of field work allows us to be 6 feet apart.

  • We are fully stocked with hand washing and hand sanitzing materials.

  • If any team member feels unwell they will not be coming to work and we will seek out testing and follow self-isolation protocols.

Harvest procedures:

  • All of our harvest bins, harvest tools and wash areas are sanitized after each harvest.

  • After washing we pack produce immediately into it’s final packaging.

  • CSA shares are individually packed, so that during pick up all you have to do is grab a box instead of picking your share out of open bins.

  • Loose items such as greens etc, and more specifically those for the farmers market and retail wholesale customers will be pre-packaged as much as possible to avoid over-handling. * Please note that while we were striving to go towards a more waste-free packaging scheme before the Covid-19 pandemic we are trying our best to use packaging that is recyclable or compostable when possible.

What You Can Do!

Sign up for a CSA share here!

  • Now more than ever we need your business to show that local food matters to the community.

  • CSA shares are the safest way to eat well, stay safe and get your weekly supply of organic produce without going to the grocery store.

  • In order to make CSA as easy as possible for everyone we have put the following in place:

  • 3 pick -up locations to choose from: Husky Meadows, Mt Kadam Forest Farm in Winchester and Mountain View Farm in Falls Village.

  • You can now choose to pay monthly for your CSA share (full shares only).

  • If you sign up before April 30th you will receive your 50% off your first month!

  • If you are interested in a share but are experiencing financial hardship due to Covid-19 we have support through Norfolk Net to provide shares at a very reduced rate. Please contact us or Norfolk Net for more information.

Become a Farmers Market VIP here!

  • Sign up for a Farmers Market VIP debit card and have your order pre-packed for pick up at the farm Friday afternoon at the farm or Saturday at the Norfolk Farmers Market.

  • If you can’t plan ahead that is ok, too. We’ll be at the Norfolk Farmers Market every week.

Shop Locally

  • We are in the process of working with several local food shops to have more of our fresh produce available. We’ll keep you posted! In the meantime, support us by asking your local shop to carry our produce!

Thank you for your continued support of Husky Meadows Farm during this challenging time. Our hearts are with you and hope you can find solace in strength in nature and community.
